Six straight weeks of gains.
The Nasdaq surged 4.5% this week and closed Friday at 26,247, a new all-time high. The S&P 500 added 2.3% to close at 7,398, also a record. Both indices posted their sixth consecutive weekly gain, the longest winning streak since 2024.
The week had everything. Monday started rough as oil ticked back above $110 and war concerns resurfaced. By Tuesday the mood had shifted — oil pulled back sharply, defense secretary Hegseth confirmed the ceasefire “certainly holds,” and both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hit fresh all-time highs. Big Tech earnings delivered across the board. Microsoft, Meta, Apple, Amazon, all beat. The AI spending story remains firmly intact.
Thursday brought a brief wobble, the S&P 500 fell 0.38% and the Nasdaq slid 0.13% as oil came back from intraday lows and Amazon weighed on the index alongside semiconductor names. Friday snapped that right back. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 115,000, well above expectations, and markets closed at records across the board.
The Iran situation remains the dominant background risk. Oil has stabilized around $100 per barrel, but JPMorgan economists warned this week that supply buffers are eroding and demand destruction from rising energy prices is approaching. The ceasefire is holding, for now.
